UPDATE

I am really excited the I have received my Dungeon Crawler minis from their 2013 Kickstarter! They had some delay with the factory making the minis, along with some problems with paint and spurs not being removed. This wasn't really a concern for me because everything I ordered was not painted. When I opened up my package I found a painted kraken, massive tentacle, and mermaid. They ran out of these in the unpainted versions so I got a free upgrade. It was a very pleasant surprise. Now time for some pictures to show the size comparison (Marro hive, Evergreen trees, Jungle tree, and 4th Mass. figure used to show scale):

Here are a few more up close comparison shots:

The detail is really great on these minis and it will be even better once they are painted. Here are a few close up shots:

I can't wait to get these painted and create cards for them.

Smoke Pillars and Orc Camp Fire

Smoke pillars are easy to make terrain pieces that I wanted to share. Here is the LINK to how to create them.

If you want to do a little more work you can create a camp fire using the same method. Here is the LINK to how to create the orc camp fire.

Now for some pictures:

How To: Make an Orc Camp Fire

This is another option similar to the smoke pillars but requires a little more work. Here is the list of what you will need to make this:
  • LED Electric tealights (I bought mine in a 2 pack at the dollar store)
  • Stuffing (I used some left over batting for quilts my wife had but you can also use stuffing for pillows or stuffed animals)
  • Black spray paint (I used the cheap $1 can from Wal-mart)
  • Clear spray paint (I like the Krylon matte)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Scissors
  • Heroscape 7 hex piece
  • Dremel
  • Super glue
  • Masking tape
  • Paint: red, orange, grey, and black
  • Small rocks
  • Sticks(twigs/branches)
First, you will need to outline and cut out a circle in the Heroscape 7 hex piece for the tealight to fit into. Like so:

Now using the super glue, glue the tealight into place.

This next step is optional. I painted my 7 hex piece, but this is not required. If you do this make sure to cover the light with some tape.

Now follow the steps on making the smoke pillar found HERE. Again, be careful here as you paint the batting so not to paint your 7 hex piece too. You can cover it using tape and paper.

Now time to glue on the rocks and stick pieces. Break the sticks into smaller pieces first.

Time to paint. Grab the orange paint (just use the cheap acrylic stuff from Wal-mart) and dab it onto the sticks.

Now, do the same thing with the red paint.

Continue the process with the black paint.

Now your sticks should be looking like they are burning. I decided to paint the rocks but you don't have to if you like the way they look. I wanted mine to match the hexes so I used grey paint to do this.

You can add a clear coat of spray paint if you wan to, but other wise it is complete. The only thing left to do is light it up.

How to: Make Smoke Pillars

I have seen these used by others on Heroscapers.com and I thought they added a lot of esthetic value to the battle field and they make great line of sight blockers too! This is a quick and cheap project that can add a lot to your battle fields. I found this blog that goes through the same process I will show you. First, lets look at the list of items we will need to make these:

  • LED Electric tealights (I bought mine in a 2 pack at the dollar store)
  • Stuffing (I used some left over batting for quilts my wife had but you can also use stuffing for pillows or stuffed animals)
  • Black spray paint (I used the cheap $1 can from Wal-mart)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Scissors

Next cut a strip of batting to be glued to the tealight.

Now place some glue on the top of the tealight and quickly place the batting on it, rapping in a circle. Be careful not to burn your self.

Now continue placing glue on the side of the tealight, continuing to rap the batting around the tealight.

You should now be at the point wear you need to cut off the extra batting.

Glue down the last part of batting on the side and this is what you should have:

Now fluff, pull, and blend the batting together until you are pleased with the way it looks. Now it is time to spray paint it black.

And that is it! Now just test out the light.

National Heroscape Day Utah 2014 Tournament

Nation Heroscape Day (NHSD) Utah 2014 Tournament is in the record books. This is my 4th NHSD tournament and the 2nd that I have hosted. We had a total of 10 players come out! That is 2 more then last year. We were able to each play 4 rounds. Our point total this year was 515 points.

Here are the maps we used:

Blaze
Cage Match

Draugur

Guardian

Remains of Clionesia

Shangri-La

Here is the breakdown of the win/loss records and the total combine points for each player:

Steph (my wife) 3 - 1 (1470)
Me 3 - 1 (1140)
Scott 3 - 1 (910)
Taylor 2 - 2 (1375)
Steve 2 - 2 (1335)
Brandon 2 - 2 (1205)
Braxton 2 - 2 (1005)
Jason 2 - 2 (740)
Katy 1 - 3 (695)
Britton 0 - 4 (705)

Because we had three people at 3 - 1 at the end of the tournament we used total combine points to determine each players ranking. With the total combine score my wife repeated as champion this year. Here is her amry this year.
Keep rolling skulls and shields
The Champions Army:
Atlaga the Kyrie Warrior
Red Wyrmling x3
Minions of Utgar x3

For my army I took:
Major Q10
Blastatrons x2
Gladiatrons x3

It was a great night of Heroscape and I look forward to the next tournament.
