Weekly Update

The Dungeon Crawler Kick Starter is going well...it has slowed down but they have reached the needed goal for the painted Firbolg Skeleton. The next goal is the Peryton, can't say I am very excited about this mini, but the wings are great looking and could be used to make a custom Kyrie.

Wave 1: Falling Darkness
Only one set left to release! I decided that I would follow official Heroscape precedent and release my Zombikazes the same way as the Zombies of Morindan, as there own pack.

Xualtiaca Fire Ants WIP
Testing has begun and I have nailed down the powers for these guys. I wanted the feeling of an ant hill...as you disturb an ant hill more and more ants start moving and gather to the site of the disturbance. To achieve this I modified the Zombies of Morindan's Hoard Movement and decide to use the Goblin Cutters' Mob Attack. Below are the  powers:

Climb x3
When moving up or down levels of terrain, Xualtiaca Fire Ants may triple their height.

Swarming Movement
After revealing a numbered Order Marker on Xualtiaca Fire Ants, you may move 1 additional Xualtiaca Fire Ant for every engaged Xualtiaca Fire Ant you control. However, you may attack with only 4 Xualtiaca Fire Ants. You may attack with any 4 Xualtiaca Fire Ants, even Xualtiaca Fire Ants that you did not move this turn.

Mob Attack
When attacking with a Xualtiaca Fire Ant you control, if the defending figure is engaged with at least 2 other Xualtiaca Fire Ants you control, it subtracts 2 from its defense dice.

LOLTH’S COMMAND
After revealing a numbered Order Marker on this Army Card, and instead of taking a turn this Deepwyrm Drider, you may take a turn with any Arachnid or Drow Hero or Squad you control who follows Utgar.

HIDE IN DARKNESS
If this Deepwyrm Drider is attacked with a normal attack and at least 1 skull is rolled, roll the 20-sided die. If this Deepwyrm Drider is on a dungeon space, add 3 to your die roll. If he is on a shadow space, add 6 to your die roll. If you roll a 1-15, roll defense dice normally. If you roll a 16 or higher, ignore all damage that would be inflicted by the attack.

Weekly Update

Wow I can't believe it has already been a week...time really flies. Anyway on to the Heroscape news.

Dungeon Crawlers Kick Starter is going great! They have already reached the minimum goal to fund the painted Kraken and the goal for the unpainted Firbolg Skeleton (see my last weekly update or click the banner above for more information). This is exciting for me because it means more customs!

Wave 1: Falling Darkness
There are only 2 sets left to release for Wave 1. This next set will be a fun one for those who are familiar with my previous blog because I have not released 2 of the 3 units and the Cave Troll has undergone a few changes from the original version. In case you forgot what they are here is the list:

Set 3: Warriors of Evil
Cave Troll
Courser of Annellintia
Deepwyrm Drider

Xualtiaca Fire Ants WIP
I am planing on having this squad finished for Wave 2. The Xualtiaca Fire Ants are giant ants in the Ticalla Jungle on Valhalla (the world where Heroscape takes place), making them a unit that is apart of the official canon. The squad will consist of 4 ant figures from the Dungeon Crawler mini line Omens: Giant Ant.

You can buy the ants and the rest of the Dungeon Crawler minis HERE.

Tolkien Scape Preview
Just re-watched the Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey last night and thought I would give a preview of a few of the figures in the design process with the following picture.

I haven't decided if I will be releasing them in Waves like my classic Heroscape customs or individually like I am doing for the Disney customs. Either way I am working on a list of figures that I will be making that you can find on my Tolkein Customs page.

The Book of Shadow Grappler

The Book of Shadow Grappler
Bangerang
Wave 1 - Darkness Falling - Servants of Lolth

The figure used for this unit is Grappler from Dungeon Crawler: Set 1 From the Depths

GRAPPLE
All small or medium opponent’s figures that enter or occupy a space adjacent to any Shadow Grappler may not move. Figures affected by Grapple cannot be moved by any special power on an Army Card or Glyph.

SHADOW MOVEMENT
Instead of moving normally with a Shadow Grappler, you may immediately place it on any empty space that is within 6 spaces of that Shadow Grappler and is no higher than 1 level above that Shadow Grappler’s height or 3 levels below that Shadow Grappler’s base. If a Shadow Grappler is engaged when it starts its Shadow Movement, it will not take any leaving engagement attacks.

-Rulings and Clarifications-
GRAPPLE : Shadow Grappler Movement Using Grapple
Are Shadow Grapplers also stuck in the engagement because of Grapple?
No. Grapple only affects figures that are engaged to a Shadow Grappler. Once any opponent's figures enter a space adjacent to a Shadow Grappler, they cannot move. That includes movements around the Shadow Grappler while still staying engaged. However, a Shadow Grappler can leave the engagement if they choose to. On a side note; if 2 opposing sides both have figures with Grapple, they would lock each other down. (adapted from the Hasbro FAQ discussion on the Gladiatron's Cyberclaw).

GRAPPLE : Units With Disengage and Ghost Walk
Is a character with Ghost Walk or Disengage also affected by Grapple?Yes. As soon as they pass onto a space adjacent to a Shadow Grappler, they are locked into the engagement. No special power on an army card or glyph can get them out of the engagement. (Hasbro FAQ)

The Book of Drow Shadowcaster

The Book of Drow Shadowcaster
Bangerang
Wave 1 - Darkness Falling - Servants of Lolth

The figure used for this unit is a repaint of Erevan Sunshadow from Heroscape D&D Battle for the Underdark (Master Set 3).

SHADOW CAST
At the start of the game, place 2 shadow tiles on a Drow Shadowcaster Army Card for each Drow Shadowcaster figure in your Army. After moving a Drow Shadowcaster you may place 1 shadow tile from its Army Card onto an empty land space within 6 spaces of the Drow Shadowcaster. This may only been done if the shadow tile fits normally onto the chosen space.

HIDE IN DARKNESS
If a Drow Shadowcaster is attacked with a normal attack and at least 1 skull is rolled, roll the 20-sided die. If that Drow Shadowcaster is on a dungeon space, add 3 to your die roll. If he is on a shadow space, add 6 to your die roll. If you roll a 1-15, roll defense dice normally. If you roll a 16 or higher, ignore all damage that would be inflicted by the attack.

The Book of Lolth Spiders
Bangerang
Wave 1 - Darkness Falling - Servants of Lolth

The figures used for this unit are 2" black assorted vinyl spiders from Zurcher's party supply.

LOLTH’S ALLEGIANCE
After revealing a numbered Order Marker on the Lolth Spiders Army Card and before taking a turn with Lolth Spiders, you may first take a turn with any Drow or Arachnid Hero you Control.

VENOMOUS BITE
Each time a Lolth Spider attacks a small, medium, or large Hero with a normal attack and inflicts at least one wound, roll the 20-sided die. If you roll a 1-10, nothing happens. If you roll a 11-19, add 1 additional wound to the defending figure. If you roll a 20, destroy the defending figure. Vemnomous Bite does not affect Soulborgs, Undead, or destructable objects.

CLIMB x3
When moving up or down levels of terrain, Lolth Spiders may triple their height.

-Rulings and Clarifications-
Q. Venomous Bite vs. One-Shield Defense
Is a figure with OSD (Migol Ironwill or Crixus) subject to the Loth Spider's Venomous Bite?
A. No. For a power like Crixus & Migol's One Shield Defense, if you inflicted at least 1 wound on the initial attack roll, that's the MOST you could hit them with. You can't inflict another wound. The only way units with OSD may be poisoned is a) if they fail to roll any shields, or b) on leaving engagement attacks.

Sujoah's Poison Sting Special Attack).

The Book of Kantono Daishi

The Book of Kantono Daishi
Bangerang Wave 1 - Darkness Falling - Masters of Darkness

The figure used for this unit is League Assassin #004 Heroclix Brave and the Bold.

Character Bio:
Sneaking through the dark corridors and slipping past samurai guards, Kantono Daishi is on his last mission and this time it is for revenge.
He slips quietly into the chamber of the Daimyo that he once followed and draws his dagger. Just as he pulled back his dagger to strike the sleeping Daimyo, he caught a glimpse of a sword right before it struck him; Daishi realized he is not the only ninja in this chamber. This is not the first time Daishi’s life flashed before his eyes.
In this split second Daishi recalled the last time he almost died in battle, except last time Daishi was protecting the man he was now trying to kill. Then Daishi was a noble samurai, one of the greatest in his clan, but even a great samurai can be defeated by a harquebus bullet.  Nonetheless, Daishi didn’t die from that bullet. After the battle was lost his Daimyo commanded him to commit seppuku to regain his honor.
Feeling that he had not lost his honor, Daishi refused and fled the region.
After fleeing Daishi lost his lands and samurai title; he wandered in the mountains until he meet Pang Tong warrior-Monk. Daishi renounced his Bushido code and the two developed a new theory of warfare, ninjutsu. As ninjas they could do things that no monk or samurai could do, and would accomplish any mission by whatever means necessary.
Now many of Daishi’s and Pang Tong’s students fought secretly for Daimyos, completing tasks that they could not do because of their codes of honor; and now Daishi would fall, to one of his own.
He was ready for death, but it did not come. The room was darker then before and the attacking ninja was perfectly still, frozen in the darkness with his sword to Daishi’s throat. Then Daishi saw him coming out of the shadows, a large man with black wings like a giant raven. In the darkness the man offered Daishi the ability to regain his riches, lands, title and life if he would fight for him. Daishi really had no choice as the man grabbed him by the arms and pulled him into the shadows and into another world.

DISHONORABLE LEADERSHIP
When revealing an Order Marker on Kantono Daishi, after taking a turn with Kantono Daishi, if Kantono Daishi is unengaged, you may take a turn with one of the following that you control:
•  Up to 2 Ninja Heroes
or
•  1 Ninja Squad
Any figure in the above list that is taking a turn must be within clear sight of Kantono Daishi before moving.

PHANTOM WALK
Kantono Daishi can move through all figures and is never attacked when leaving an engagement.

COUNTERSTRIKE
When rolling defense dice against a normal attack from an adjacent attacking figure, all excess shields count as unblockable hits on the attacking figure. This power does not work against Samurai.

-Rulings and Clarifications-
DISHONORABLE LEADERSHIP : Adjusting Figures Before Activation
Before taking a turn on Kantono Daishi's Order Marker, may I reposition figures so that they are within line of sight of Daishi, and then take a turn with them?
Yes. Hasbro's Advanced FAQ article states that on a player's turn, s/he may adjust
the positions of friendly figures. (Hasbro FAQ)

-Rulings and Clarifications-
Q. Poison Weapons vs. One-Shield Defense
Is a figure with OSD (Migol Ironwill or Crixus) subject to Mur'ssyraen's Poison Weapons?
A. No. For a power like Crixus & Migol's One Shield Defense, if you inflicted at least 1 wound on the initial attack roll, that's the MOST you could hit them with. You can't inflict another wound. REJECTED BY DEATH : Rolling for 'dead cards'
If I have a turn order marker on an Army Card, but every figure on the Army Card has been destroyed, can I still roll for Rejected By Death?

If I have a turn order marker on a destroyed Grimor, but he is brought back onto the board by Rejected By Death before I would have used that Turn Order Marker, can I take that turn with him when the time comes?

Set 4: Exploding Dead
Zombikazes

Next week I will be releasing the "books" for Set 1: Masters of Darkness

Current WIP (Work In Progress)

Aegir - D&D Iron Golem Juggernaut

My goal was to make him an Unique version of the Iron Golem, giving him the same stats but a third special ability or special attack. Based on the figure's pose (see above) my first thought was to just give him Sweeping Sword Special Attack...but then he would basically just be another Shurrak. So, to get away from that I started thinking more about the pose and other possible ideas. I thought of him running up and swinging his sword which lead me to Charging Assault, from the Kozuke Samurai; it also lead me to think of First Assault 3, from Valguard. I like both powers and though either one would be nice to see on another figure, I had the idea to combine them! This creates a very unique feel to Aegir and gives him an potential attack of 9 if you can use Charging First Assualt 3 (see below) properly. This would be the strongest unmodified attack in the game, but it is kept in check by the requirements of the power. Below is Aegir's stats and powers currently, more testing is needed before he is finalized.

Species - Golem
Unit Type - Unique Hero
Class - Construct
Personality - Merciless
Size - 10
Height - Huge

Life - 3
Move - 5
Range - 1
Attack - 6
Defense - 6
Points - goal is to be around 150

Special abilities:
CHARGING FIRST ASSAULT 3
Aegir may add 3 to his Move and Attack numbers as long as he is unengaged proir to moving. Aegir must be able to move adjacent to an opponent's figure in order to use Charging First Assualt 3.

IRON TOUGH
When rolling defense dice against a special attack, Aegir always adds 2 automatic shields to whatever is rolled.

LAVA RESISTANT
Aegir never rolls for molten lava damage or lave field damage, and does not have to stop in molten lava spaces.
